Prime Minister Terrance Drew to Lead Delegation at Global Sustainable Island Summit on Prince Edward Island

BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis  [Press Secretary, PMO] – Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, will lead a delegation to the Global Sustainable Island Summit taking place from May 21st – 23rd, 2024 on Prince Edward Island (PEI), ahead of the Fourth Global Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) Conference in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Global Sustainable Island Summit 2024, co-hosted by the Government of Prince Edward Island, is a leading event focused on promoting sustainable development for islands globally. The summit unites a diverse array of professionals, researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and students, all committed to fostering a more sustainable future for island communities.

Prime Minister Drew will open the Summit alongside the Premier of Prince Edward Island, Honourable Dennis King. Additionally, Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, will join fellow island leaders on a panel to emphasize the critical leadership role island states play in climate action.

This partnership with Island Innovation, a global network that helps to advance innovation and drive sustainable change, builds on the strategic geostrategic initiatives pursued by Prime Minister Drew and Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rt. Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, during COP28 in Dubai. The Summit aims to strengthen the Canada-Caricom strategic partnership for a resilient future at the provincial level.

PEI, the most Atlantic of the Canadian provinces, holds significant potential for impactful partnerships. Prime Minister Drew’s focus will be on building a sustainable Saint Kitts and Nevis while enhancing training and development opportunities.

Accompanying Prime Minister Drew will be Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development; Ms. Naeemah Hazelle, Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office; Ms. Colincia Levine, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment; His Excellency Samuel Berridge, High Commissioner of St. Kitts and Nevis to Canada; and Mr. Eustace Wallace, Minister Counselor, High Commission to Canada.
