Street Vendor Accommodation for Sugar Mas 52

The St. Kitts National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) is pleased to announce a significant update following our recent meeting with registered Street Vendors on Wednesday, 15 November. Addressing concerns about the vending timeframe in Basseterre for the Carnival season, we are thrilled to confirm that vending will be permitted from 16 December 2023 to 2nd January 2024.

This decision, made in collaboration with representatives from various Government Ministries including the Security Forces, underscores our commitment to ensuring that our National Carnival is a harmonious and inclusive event for everyone.

Recognising Street Vendors as integral to Sugar Mas, the SKNNCC continues to view vendors as significant stakeholders.

We understand the critical role that vendors play in enriching the Carnival experience for both locals and visitors.

The Honourable Samal Duggins, Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship; and Sports and the Creative Economy, has shown exceptional attentiveness to the voices and concerns of the Street Vendors.

Demonstrating a responsive and proactive approach, the Minister played a pivotal role in facilitating the recent changes.

His deep understanding of the Street Vendors’ significance in the downtown area reflects his commitment to ensuring that their needs and contributions are a central consideration in our policies and decisions.

The SKNNCC is diligently working to ensure the comfort and safety of all stakeholders, including pedestrians, business owners, and vehicular traffic.

We are committed to creating an environment where everyone can enjoy the festivities in a harmonious and respectful manner.

All Street Vendors and interested parties are kindly asked to look forward to a follow-up press release, which will provide further updates regarding the opening of payment for booths and additional logistical details.

The SKNNCC extends its heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding.

We are excited to move forward together, embracing the spirit of unity and inclusivity that defines our beloved Sugar Mas.
