Jamaica Scorpions Eye Back-to-Back Titles in CG United Super50 Cup

Sir Curtly Ambrose Presents to Captain Rovman Powell

Defending champions Jamaica Scorpions will be hoping to capture back-to-back titles when they take part in the upcoming CG United Super50 Cup. The champs, with Rovman Powell at the helm, have named two newcomers – former West Indies Under-19 batsman Brad Barnes and left-arm pacer Shalom Parnel – in their 14-member squad for the marquee List A tournament.

We have a number of players who have returned from the squad that won the title last year, so we have a lot of experience in our camp. We are looking to win again this year but we know it can’t be won in one match so we have planned well and will look to take it match by match,
said Andrew Richardson, the Team Manager and Assistant Coach.

The new format for this year is good with a minimum of seven games, and this gives the players an opportunity to play more games and gain much-needed experience. The main reason behind the 50-over tournament is all about building towards improving West Indies cricket.
Jamaica Scorpions beat Trinidad & Tobago Red Force by three wickets in the final to win the CG United Super50 Cup last November at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

The Jamaicans open their campaign this year against Leeward Islands Hurricanes in a day-night contest, on the second match day on Wednesday, 18 October. The match will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The first ball is 1 pm (12 noon Jamaica).

FULL SQUAD: Rovman Powell (captain), Fabian Allen, Brad Barnes, Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Dennis Bulli, Sheldon Cottrell, Nicholson Gordon, Andre McCarthy, Kirk McKenzie, Shalom Parnell, Jeavor Royal, Odean Smith, Chadwick Walton; Nikita Miller (Head Coach)
