Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): Glenford Williams of Molineux will soon be living in more comfortable surroundings following a recent handover ceremony where he was presented with keys to a new home.
The presentation was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Human Settlement, the Honourable Dr Geoffrey Hanley and Ambassador His Excellency Leon Natta-Nelson on September 29, 2023, at the Prime Minister’s Office, Government Headquarters.
The one-bedroom house forms part of the government’s social housing programme to assist society’s vulnerable.
“It is the government’s intention to do whatever we can to assist persons in owning their own home,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Hanley. “The gentleman receiving his keys today is an indication of hope that someone in a similar situation would be able to benefit as a result of the innovation of the government when it comes to housing.”
Ambassador Natta-Nelson spearheaded the push for Mr. Williams to be considered for the home. He thanked the Cabinet of Ministers for favourably considering Mr Williams’ plight.
“I know this took a while. Nevertheless, working hand in hand with all of the partners in the Cabinet, we were adamant that this was going to get done,” H.E. Natta-Nelson stated, adding that Mr Williams will be able to enjoy comfortable surroundings and improved quality of life.
Mr. Williams thanked Ambassador Natta-Nelson for his leadership and compassion in seeing this matter through to the end.
“I’m highly appreciative. Thank you, Mr. Natta,” he expressed.
