The now annual Christena Memorial swim camp, concluded on Friday 25th August, with an official closing ceremony at the Yachtsman’s beach.
Chief coordinator of the program, Ms. Terri Andrews chaired the ceremony and reminded all in her hearing that the swim camp was insisted in memory of the 1970 Christena disaster, when many persons lost their lives at sea.
She thanked Premier Mark Brantley and his Administration for supporting the initiative and sponsoring the program in full.
She also thanked Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and his entire department for their invaluable assistance and support.
She noted that the ultimate goal of the program is to ensure that all of the children of Nevis, learn to swim.
She pointed to the fact that swimming is already on the curriculum in a few schools on the island and the intention is for the program to expand to all schools.
The participants were then presented with certificates.
