MINISTRY OF CULTURE MAKES INDEPENDENCE MOOD LIGHT AND LIVELY
The Ministry of Culture in St. Kitts will add flair and colour to Independence with a National Arts Festival this week. The September 9 – 14 festivity will form part of the Federation’s 30th anniversary of Independence.
In a panel discussion held at ZIZ television studios recently, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Sharon Rattan, re-intimated listeners and viewers with the festival which dates back to 1964. This year’s merriment will be centered on the theme Explore, Value, Culture and Promote and will pay homage to its founding father and national hero, the late His Excellency Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell.
Ms Rattan noted that one of the main goals of this year’s festival is to gather for the arts in St. Kitts and Nevis, the full recognition it deserves, and to encourage more Kittitians and Nevisians t become more involved.
The festival promises to bring Independence Square to life with a weeklong display of folklore, culinary arts, painting, craft and music. Included in the lineup will be performances from Poinciana Theatre, Moses Byron, Cayon High School Steel Pan se well as past and present Kittitian Superstar winners.
The celebrations will spill over to the September 18th, where the curtains come down with a super concert featuring renowned local, regional and international acts. The ministry continues to encourage persons to participate in the celebrations for National Arts Festival, and help make the 30th anniversary Independence celebration a memorable one.
