West Indies were bowled out for 106 in the second innings to hand South Africa a big win on Saturday. Faced with a target of 391, the visitors were dismissed in the afternoon as the home side secured the series.

The West Indies began the day on a high note, bowling out South Africa for the addition of 34 more runs in the morning session. When they batted captain Kraigg Brathwaite (18 from 38 balls) fell in the 11th over when a ball from Kagiso Rabada (2-19) kept low and trapped him a leg-before wicket.

From there the innings fell into decline until Joshua Da Silva played resolutely for 34 from 52 balls in an hour at the crease. Experienced allrounder Jason Holder, who was the hero in the West Indies first innings when he made 81 not out, supported Da Silva with a run-a-ball 19 before. They both fell to the bowling of pacer Gerald Coetzee, who ended with the best figures of 3-37.

Alzarri Joseph made 18 from 13 balls and blasted two sixes and a four near the end of the innings before he was stumped for the final wicket attempting to go big again. That wicket gave off-spinner Simon Harmer his third of the innings as he ended with 3-45.

West Indies Interim Head Coach Andre Coley spoke to the media after the match. He said:

“Whatever we needed to do, or whatever we did well, we needed to do for much longer. So from that standpoint, we were not able to have significant batting partnerships in both test matches, that would have at least allowed us to score 300 in one inning, which I believe would have made a difference.”
The two teams will now travel to East London for the start of the three-match One-Day International Series. The first match is on Thursday 16 March at Buffalo Park.
