PJ’S OPTIMISTIC OF VICTORY
Jeffrey Lewis of the PJ’s team has indicated that his team mates are overjoyed at creating history in the St.Kitts-Nevis Basketball league.
In an interview on Thursday, Lewis noted that this was the third year that his team was participating in the league and this time around they have made it into the finals of the A division.
For him personally, it is a special feeling because when the feat was previously accomplished by another Nevis team, CG Rebels, he was then a member of that team.
Now with a change of teams, he is again into a significant final.
CG Rebels did not fare too well in their finals encounters but Lewis is confident that his PJ’S team can indeed upset the apple cart even though the opposing team Cayon Lions is more highly ranked and fancied and would have the St.Kitts home court and crowd advantage.
‘They beat us by six points in the preliminary rounds and we did not have our full team. Now we have all the guys and we are at the top of our game. I am confident that we can pull this one off,’ he said.
In describing their historic win in the semi final encounter versus the much more fancied Legends team, he said: ‘That game should have been taped. It was an exciting game. We were behind by seven points with four minutes on the clock and then we drew level and as the seconds ticked away, it was shot for shot—with one team one point ahead or the scores level again and everyone in the crowd standing and shouting. The atmosphere was just great and although we did not have the big crowd support that they did, we held our nerves and won by two points at the final whistle,’ he stated.
Lewis is hoping that some Nevisian supporters would be able to make it to St.Kitts for the first game this weekend.
He is convinced that it is critical for his team to win the first game. ‘That will set us well on our way,’ he said.
However, he was happy to point out that even if they do not win the finals, his team will be promoted to the Premier Division next year.
