West indies Rising Stars bowed out of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup as they went under to England Women U19 in the Super 6 match on Wednesday. England batted first and rattled up an imposing score of 179-4 off their 20 overs.
West Indies replied with 84-8 off their 20 overs – a second defeat in the second phase of the event. England qualified semifinals and West Indies made an exit with an overall record of two wins (vs Ireland and Indonesia) and three defeats (vs New Zealand, Rwanda and England).
When England batted they had a top score of 56 from captain Grace Scrivens. West Indies captain, Ashmini Munisar, with figures of 2-32 and Asabi Callender (1-28), did their best to stem the tide with the ball.
In their batting reply, the West Indies quickly slumped to 8-2 in the second over and didn’t recover to challenge the target. However, Djenaba Joseph played a number of exciting shots all around the wicket and ended on 44 off 42 balls which included six sparkling boundaries. She was well supported by Asabi Callender (17) as they added 47 for the fifth wicket; while Ellie Anderson recorded the tournament-best bowling figures of 5-12 as four wickets fell for six runs at the backend of the innings.
