Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 21, 2022 (SKNIS): The Department of Statistics in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, will hold an island-wide drive-through on Saturday, September 24 scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. from the office located at Bladen’s, Basseterre, and traveling east around the island. The purpose of the drive-through is to further educate the general public on the Population and Housing Census which was rolled out in April 2022.
Corneil Williams, Social Statistician and Deputy Census Officer with responsibility for field operations for the Population and Housing Census explained the aim of the drive-through.
“The purpose of this drive-through is to go across the island, community by community, letting you know that we are still conducting the Census. We will be in each and every area handing out some paraphernalia, doing giveaways and encouraging every person to respond to the enumerators when they come to your area,” said Mr. Williams.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Sherilita (Shez) Dore-Tyson encouraged the general public to participate.
“Look out for the Census Officers, be a part of the Population and Housing Census. If you have any questions this is a great opportunity to ask them. We are going to make some stops so make contact with the officers, ask your questions, and get flyers, information – anything you need to educate yourself about the Census. Be a part of it, we don’t need anyone to be left out,” said Ms. Dore-Tyson.
The Census is to gather information about the general population to present a full and reliable picture of the population in the country – its housing conditions and demographic, social and economic characteristics. The information collected includes data on age, gender, country of origin, year of immigration, marital status, housing conditions, marriage, number of children, education, employment, and travel habits.
