Sherfane Rutherford’s blitz fired St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to their first win of the Men’s Sixty here yesterday.
With the hosts chasing 67 at Warner Park, Rutherford arrived at number five to blast four sixes in a five-ball unbeaten 24 to put his side over the line against St Lucia Kings, with 24 deliveries to spare.
Captain Evin Lewis had earlier struck 22 from 15 balls, inspiring a 37-run second-wicket stand with veteran Chris Gayle who managed only nine from 11 balls.
Left-arm spinner Jeavor Royal suffered but finished with two for 36 from his two overs.
Sent in, Kings were dismissed cheaply for 66 in the penultimate over, opener Johnson Charles top-scoring with 28 from 14 deliveries, including two fours and three sixes.
He put on 33 for the first wicket, Leroy Lugg (five) before left-arm spinner Jaden Carmichael (two for 16) and off-spinner Jon-Russ Jaggesar (two for 28) pulled things back.
In another match at the same venue, new ball fast bowling pair Ravi Rampaul and Jayden Seales produced key bursts to set up Trinbago Knight Riders’ (TKR) 47-run win over Guyana Amazon Warriors.
With TKR defending 95 at Warner Park, the 37-year-old Rampaul (two for six) and the 20-year-old Seales (two for 10) snatched two wickets apiece to send Amazon Warriors tumbling to 48 all out at the start of the ninth over.
Heinrich Klaasen, a 31-year-old South African right-hander, struck 25 from 19 balls with three fours but no other batsman reached double figures.
Earlier, opener Tion Webster top-scored with 27 from 22 balls while fellow Trinidadian Terrance Hinds chipped in with a nine-ball 23 as TKR rallied to 95 for four from their 10 overs.
Webster belted four fours in a 46-run opening stand with New Zealand’s Tim Seifert (16) before Hinds put on 38 for the fourth wicket with all-rounder Andre Russell who finished on 14 not out with a four and a six.
Pace bowler Odean Smith claimed two for 11, both wickets, those of openers Webster and Seifer, in the sixth over.
In the day’s final match last night, Jamaica Tallawahs defeated Barbados Royals by 41 runs. Scores: Tallawahs 162 for three off 10 overs (Amir Jangoo 68 not out, Raymon Reifer 57 not out); Royals 121 off 9.5 overs (Harry Tector 35, Corbin Bosch 33, Rahkeem Cornwall 25; Raymon Reifer 3-16).
