Shirvon Greene –Coach of The Year

Nevisian Shirvon Greene, Associate Head Coach at Monroe College was named the 2022 Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year for both the men and the women. Announcement was made during the recently concluded 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

HUTCHINSON, Kan., May 23, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs women’s and men’s outdoor track and field teams were well-represented in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region postseason awards. The Mustangs earned six Atlantic Region Awards, which were announced during the final day of the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hutchinson Community College’s Gowans Stadium.

Monroe once again took home three Athlete of the Year awards for the Atlantic Region. On the women’s side, Aaliyah Moore was named the 2022 Atlantic Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, which gives her a clean sweep of the award for cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. Kristin Stickdorn was selected as the 2022 Atlantic Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, earning the award for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. For the men, Karim Belmahdi earned the distinction of 2022 Atlantic Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year. In addition, Head Coach Lesleigh Hogg was awarded the 2022 Atlantic Region Women’s Head Coach of the Year honor, while Associate Head Coach Shirvon Greene was named the 2022 Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year for both the men and the women.

Moore had yet another outstanding season during the 2022 outdoor campaign for Monroe. After qualifying for the indoor championships in a number of events, Moore focused on just the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run during the outdoor season. Moore was the top-ranked runner in the Atlantic Region in both events, while ranking first in the NJCAA in the 800m, and third in the 1500m, heading into the NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Moore finished third overall at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1500m, while taking eighth overall in the 800m to earn a spot on the podium for both events, as well as USTFCCCA All-America distinction.

Stickdorn was the top-ranked thrower in the Atlantic Region, having finished the regular season at No. 1 in both the discus throw and the hammer throw during the outdoor season. She was also the top-ranked thrower in the hammer throw in the NJCAA this season, while ranking 11th in the NJCAA in the discus. Unfortunately, an injury prevented her from competing at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships this season.

Belmahdi had a strong outdoor season for the Mustangs to follow up a successful indoor season. He ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, No. 2 in the 1500m and No. 6 in the 800m. Among the national rankings, he was No. 3 in the steeplechase, No. 6 in the 1500m and No. 30 in the 800m. Belmahdi ran in three events at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships, taking 12th in the 1500m, 15th in the steeplechase, and he helped the Mustangs to a ninth-place finish in the 4×800 relay.

Coach Hogg and Coach Greene helped lead the Mustang women to the top ranking in the Atlantic Region once again this season, while the men ranked No. 3 at the end of the regular season. Coach Hogg and Coach Greene steered the Mustang women to an eighth-place finish out of 27 teams at the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Hogg and Greene coached the Mustangs to six individual USTFCCCA All-American honors, while Farrah Miller claimed the 2022 national championship in the 800m.

The Mustangs women’s team finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region with 712.09 points. The men’s team ranked No. 3 in the Atlantic Region with 544.57 points this season.
