The Queen’s baton has completed its journey through the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
On Thursday 5th May, the baton was showcased during the Agriculture open day in St. Kitts, where numerous persons on hand, were able to get photo ops.
This included quite a number of children who even posed while their friends tangled with the motorized bull on show there.
On Friday 6th May, certain officials were part of the relay run, including the world-famous athlete, Kim Collins
On Saturday 7th May, the baton was brought over to Nevis and collected by Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton, who presented it to Minister of Sports Hon. Eric Evelyn, at the NEVIS NICE sign; who in turn passed it over to Hon. Spencer Brand took it to Malcolm Guishard Park and presented to Premier Mark Brantley.
The baton then made its rounds to the Elquemedo Willet Park, Fort Charles and the Nevis Athletic stadium.
The baton will now move on to Anguilla today Monday.
ABOUT THE QUEEN’S BATON RELAY
The Queen’s Baton Relay is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games. The Baton carries a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, currently Queen Elizabeth II. The Relay traditionally begins at Buckingham Palace in London as a part of the city’s Commonwealth Day festivities. The Queen entrusts the baton to the first relay runner. At the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the final relay runner hands the baton back to the Queen or her representative, who reads the message aloud to officially open the Games. The Queen’s Baton Relay is similar to the Olympic Torch Relay
