It was a historic occasion, as after a two-year hiatus, an athletic meet, was once again held on Nevis.
The St. James’ Primary School, kick-started the athletic term, with the hosting of their sports, meet, under the patronage of former student/athlete, Mr. Kevin Maynard.
After an impressive march past and inspection of the troops, the athletes took to the track and proceeded to excite and entertain the sizeable crowd on hand.
Two of the spectators were actually celebrating birthday milestones and certainly had a whale of a time.
Crossing guard at the school, Regan Daniel and the Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams, who enjoyed her time, cheered on her twin boys.
The athletes competed in races such as the 300, 200; 400, 800; 1200; 60; 80 and 100 meters, along with fun races such as socks and shoes; fill the bucket, lime and spoon and sack races.
Little Akilah Douglas was a revelation and left all of her competitors in the dust in every race in which she participated.
When the calculations were finalized Gold house came away the winner with 336 points.
Red house was in second place, with 299 points and Green was in third place with 251 points
