At one time, it looked like Easterns’ came to win. They seemed well in control and cruising, with a fine partnership between Dwayne Newton and Sebastien Manners.
However, once that partnership was broken, the Pioneers’ spinners ran a riot through the lower order, to secure victory for their team.
It was match one in the Harvey Stapleton T-20 tournament, hosted by the Nevis Cricket Association and played on Monday 27th December, at the VOJN grounds.
Pioneers batted first and were in deep trouble, with their two main batsmen going cheaply.
On the day though, Marcus Dubbery stepped up to the plate to almost score half a ton that got his team, Pioneers, to a defendable total of 116.
Easterns in response were bowled out for 98.
Close but not close enough!
Summarized scores: Pioneers 116 for 6 in 15 overs: Marcus Dubbery 46; Gyan Griffin 16
Sylvester Hobson 2 for 21; Gilmore Hobson, Gary Pemberton and Sheldon Browne 1 wicket each
Easterns 98 all out: Dwayne Newton 31; Sebastien Manners 18;
Hakeem Harvey 3 for 15; Terron Webbe 2 for 11; Dubbery, Herbert, Singh and Griffin 1 wicket each
Pioneers won by 18 runs
