Charlestown, Nevis – Deputy Director of the Social Services Department, Ms. Joyce Moven, who incidentally has direct responsibilities for the Seniors’ program, has indicated that despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the seniors on Nevis have not been forgotten.
The month of older persons is being celebrated in the month of October, as per usual, albeit, having been restructured to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
The theme for this month is: “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing?”
Ms. Moven listed the following activities that remain booked for the month:
Oct 16 – WORLD FOOD DAY ACTIVITY: [FOOD BOOTH AT CULTURAL VILLAGE] Come and support our Fund Raising Event as we participate in activities organized by the Ministry of Agriculture to celebrate World Food Day 2020. Local traditional dishes will be available at reasonable prices
Oct 18 – CHURCH SERVICES: [1 PER PARISH]. Seniors will worship at the church identified in their parish. All services will be the same day
St. George group- St. George’s Anglican Church
St. John’s group – Church of God – Cox Village
St. Paul’s group – New Testament Church – Bath Village
St. Thomas group – Faith in Christ Ministries – Barnes Ghaut
St. James group – Combermere Methodist Church
Oct 20 – SENIORS DAY – VON RADIO (9:00 A. M. – 11:00 A.M)
Seniors will tune in and participate by calling into the program. There will also be a quiz and an elocution contest during that period. Seniors can register to participate in the contest by telling caregivers or calling the office. The choice of readings is – The Little Ren Hen or The Boy Who Cried Wolf. They can only read one of the stories.
Oct 22 – COMMUNITY DAY: DELIVER A LUNCH TO HOUSEBOUND SENIORS [those seniors who are unable to move around without assistance; not those who can get on the bus and do their own errands]
