ECCB Moves Closer to Launching Digital EC Currency September 19, 2020 6

Persons will soon be able to sign up to use the digital version of the EC Currency (DCash), as the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) gets closer to the launch.

DCash can be used to send and receive funds, pay for goods and services, and transact business in a safer, faster, cheaper way.

Chairperson of the ECCB Fintech Working Group, Sharmyn Powell, explains how persons can sign up to use DCash on this week’s episode of ECCB Connects, the Bank’s weekly public education and outreach programme. Powell said persons can sign up as a registered based user or a value based user.

¨For value based, if you have an account with one of the participating financial institutions then you can get a registered based wallet through that financial institution. However, if your financial institution is not participating, or you do not have a bank or credit union account, then you get a value based wallet¨ Powell said.

Powell added that merchants can also be part of the pilot by signing up through their financial institution. A complete list of all participating financial institutions will be made available to the public in the coming weeks so that customers and merchants can know where to sign up.

The pilot is being conducted initially in four of the ECCB member countries namely: Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis and Saint Lucia.
