AT WARNER PARK – Windward Islands v T&T

After an action packed Day 1 that saw 20 wickets fall, the Windward Islands are on top and heading for victory against Trinidad & Tobago. Leading by 44 runs overnight, and starting Day 2 on 19/0, the Windwards lost Gidron Pope without a run being added.

Tonius Simon and Keone George batted sensibly for much of the first hour taking the lead to 83 runs, before Simons was trapped Leg Before by Jovan Ali for 17.

But George soldiered on taking the Windwards’ score into triple figures. He brought up his fifty in 51 minutes, facing 108 balls and spanking seven fours along the way.

He had safely taken the Windwards to Lunch at 125/2, leading by 150 runs.

He found a good partner in Taryck Gabriel, who was with him on 32. Both batsmen had put on an unbroken stand of 69 runs. The T&T bowlers engineered a collapse after Lunch, getting Gabriel early for 43. That became two wickets in three balls as George was Leg Before soon after to Bryan Charles.

Wickets kept tumbling thereafter as the Windwards fell to 171/6. At Tea, the Windwards had set Trinidad & Tobago 245 runs for victory. Andy Gobin and Jeremy Solozano gave the Trinis a good start to their chase. But Larry Edward got the breakthrough for the Windwards, getting Solozano for 25.

T&T lost two wickets quickly after; Gobin was trapped by Edward then Tion Webster was caught behind. T&T were in trouble chasing 245 for victory at 78/3. T&T ended Day 2 in a heap of trouble on 93/4, still needing 152 runs for victory. Edward finished the day with 2-23.
