St Kitts Warner Park upgrade begins next week

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (SKNIS) — The upgrade project to the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in St Kitts, which will see the installation of lights to facilitate night matches and mounting of a jumbotron will begin shortly.

Senior sports officer Vernon Springer revealed that materials have been arriving in the Federation and the project remains on track.

“The jumbotron is here already and we are currently receiving various parts for the lighting structures,” he said. “We are expecting to start the first phase of the lighting project in the first week of August.”

Acting director of sports Jeffrey Hazel confirmed that most of Warner Park will be closed to the public from August 8 to allow for the necessary preparatory and subsequent construction work.

Springer added that after the poles are mounted it will take approximately 24 days for the concrete to cure, barring any unforeseen weather or other types of eventualities.

Local contractors will work alongside engineers from Qualite Sports Lighting LLC, a US-based company that won the competitive bid to execute the project. Springer revealed that there will be a significant transfer of technology as a number of training sessions will be held to expose locals on the proper operation and maintenance of the lights and jumbotron.
