Four young men from Nevis, have made it to the prestigious St. Kitts-Nevis 15 and under national football team.
The four young men paid a courtesy call on Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration, Hon. Eric Evelyn, on Friday 2nd August.
They were accompanied by some of their parents and Director of Sports, Mr. Jamir Claxton.
The young Footballers introduced themselves as follows:
Vibert Stephen-14 years of age
Kenaicy Dorsett-15 years
Rocco Browne-14 years
Theon Queeley-15 years
Mr. Jamir Claxton indicated that they were leaving later that same day, en route to Florida, where the St. Kitts-Nevis team was set to participate in the CONCACAF championships. The team was placed in group G, along with Israel, Belize and St. Lucia.
He noted that the Sports Department aided the footballers by subsidizing boat fare on a daily basis so that they could go over to St. Kitts and practice with their teammates.
Minister Evelyn warmly congratulated the youngsters on their signature achievement and asked them to ‘keep their heads on and do well for themselves; for their parents and for their country.’ He pointed out that in recent times, he was happy to be sharing in a lot of good sporting news-be it Cricket; Archery and Football etc. He congratulated the parents for supporting their children and had extra words of commendations for the lone father in the group (the father of Kenaicy Dorsett), who later thanked all who had assisted the children on their Football journey thus far.
Vibert Stephen’s mom, shared warm words of thanks for Coach Alex Claxton and the St. Kitts coaching staff for the work they have done with the children.
