The Way I See It
The way I see it, there are some people on Nevis who are still in the business of grooming young minds for greatness in the future and I sincerely believe that they ought to be complimented and encouraged, while they are yet alive and in their right minds.
One such person comes to mind and that person is Mrs. Tamecia Lestrade.
Tamecia founded a dance class many years ago and has been going ever since.
The number of children who are a part of the dance club has reached amazing proportions.
I have learnt that dancing is a very helpful form of recreation or past time.
My good friend MR. GOOGLE tells me about the benefits of dancing:
• “Improved condition of your heart and lungs.
• Increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness.
• Increased aerobic fitness.
• Improved muscle tone and strength.
• Weight management.
• Stronger bones and reduced risk of osteoporosis.
• Better coordination, agility and flexibility.
Dance teaches the importance of movement and fitness in a variety of ways, through a variety of disciplines. As well, dancers learn to coordinate muscles to move through proper positions. Dancing is a great activity to pursue at almost any age provided you are in proper health to handle the rigors of dancing for life.”
The late Egbert TIMMICK Halliday was always adamant that the reason why West Indian batsmen always seem generally susceptible to good spin bowling, is because they just cannot dance.
Well I newa!
Well, I guess he had a point, because Sir Vivian Richards and Brian Lara used to virtually waltz down the pitch, while hitting the top spinners of their respective eras, all over the place with blatant disdain.
But back to Tamecia.
The fact that she has kept a dance class going for so many years, is a feat in itself.
The youthful dancers have bonded as a family, all the while honing their skills. They are also taught valuable life lessons and values, preparing them in a holistic manner for life ahead.
However, what is even more amazing is that in more recent times, Tamecia continues to ensure that her precious dance group thrives, while she is personally experiencing traumatic times.
She has been diagnosed with a rare and debilitating illness, which sometimes leave her in serious pain and has to receive regular treatment for her condition.
That treatment is now costing her a fortune, as she has to travel as far as Puerto Rico on a fairly regular basis for treatment.
Another female stalwart within our community, Ms. Pat Bartlette, on hearing of her plight has coordinated the grand Bridget Blucher concert upcoming and part of the proceeds will go towards assisting Tamecia with her medical bills.
Some of the proceeds will also go to a certain Mrs. Judith Dore, who along with her husband Wrenford Dore, have made their solid contribution to the Nevisian community and beyond, in a selfless way.
She too is undergoing severe medical distress at this time.
So, dear readers, I am pleading with you, to kindly support the Bridget Blucher concert, which is slated for the Brown Hill hard court, on Sunday 28th July, commencing promptly at 6 pm.
Go and be spiritually motivated by good gospel music and singing, as some top local acts will also be present and make your contribution of at least $20.00 to the worthy cause.
Well, as you aware, there is DANCE and there is DANCE……
There are some kinda dances that I see some young people doing nowadays –well they say they are Dances but I think they are CHANCES.
Has to be a chance they are taking when they can wring up their necks, waist and spines like that.
Then you hear about all kinds of permanent lifelong injuries for stupidniss.
Well I newa!
I used to do a little thing when I was much younger. I even incorporated the MOON WALK and the SPLIT in my repertoire.
However, with age catching up, I have settled nicely for the RENT A TILE.
That’s when you pick out one tile on the floor and stay quietly in your lane.
But kudos to Tamecia Lestrade. We salute your efforts.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
