SDA Jets Slam Dunks Jah Bass’ Team

It was a run feast of sorts, as the exciting VPL Cricket league, continued at the Hard Times playing field, on Sunday 3rd March.
In the feature match of the afternoon, two hitherto unbeaten teams, in the Jah Bass team and the SDA Jets, faced off.
Curtis Morton Jr, won the toss for the Jets and immediately elected to bat first.
He and his dad, Curtis Morton Sr then went tooth and nails after the Jah Bass bowling.
At 115 for no loss in 7 overs, they looked set to chalk up a new record on the grounds, but then the senior Morton was again unfortunately run out and then the experience of Tonito Willet came to the fore and suddenly the Jets slid to 145 for 7 from their 12 overs.
‘Gettable,’ said Tonito Willet, but when his brother Akito went magnificently caught by Jadel Allen on the long off boundary, for a duck, they were immediately in trouble.
The ball was sailing over the head of Allen for what looked like a certain six. Allen leaped into the air; knocked the ball skywards and as he fell to the ground, had the presence of mind to look up and catch the ball as it came down towards him. The crowd went wild!
However, Tonito Willet and Hugo Grant teamed up in an enterprising partnership, which threatened to take the game away from the Jets.
Curtis Morton Sr then outfoxed Tonito Willet, forcing him to spoon a catch to the younger Morton and then Lyte Browne repeated his heroics of the previous week, when he also had Hugo Grant caught by Morton Jr.
After that, it was just a matter of the death tolls to ring out but the crowd had witnessed a thriller.

Summarized scores: SDA Jets: 145 for 7 in 12 overs:
Curtis Morton Jr 62;
Curtis Morton Sr 52
Tonito Willet 3 for 20 ;
Hugo Grant 2 for 31
Jah Bass team: 123 for 4 from 12 overs:

Tonito Willet 40
Lyte Browne 2 for 4;

SDA Jets winning by 22 runs.
In the first match of the afternoon, the King’s X1 went hammer and tongs after the bowling of the Development team and chalked up a massive 155, led by a splendid half a ton by Leslie Huggins.
The Development team in response could only muster 101 from their 12 overs.
There will be no matches on Sunday 10th March, as many persons, cricketers and spectators alike, will be heading to St. Kitts to witness the T-20 encounter between West Indies and England, to be played at Warner Park on that day and other persons will be heading to the Mondo track to witness the CSS annual sports meet.
