Owner/Coach of the Over the Top Track Club, Kurvin Wallace, has revealed that his club will be hosting a one week training camp at the Mondo track.
According to Wallace, the camp will run from Monday 10th December to Friday 14th December and is open to all children across the island, even if they are not members of his track club.
The age group in focus is 5 to 12 years.
Wallace indicated that the idea was born out of the fact that some of the children who represented their various Primary schools during the interprimary event held earlier in the year, had difficulties understanding the various lanes and there were also issues pertaining to the starts.
The camp will run from 9 am to 12 noon daily and will also feature training in baton passing, standing jump; cricket ball throw and many other aspects, which will only serve to enhance the skills of the athletes for the next interprimary meet and their personal school events.
The Education and Youth and Sports Departments are also on board with the exciting program and assistance will be provided in transporting the athletes from the area of Valu Mart to the track and back to the point of pick up by their parents and guardians.
There is a small registration fee of $20.00 as the children will be provided with snacks after each session.
Wallace intends that the camp will, become an annual event and is hopeful that by next year, it will attract a sponsor as well.
