The now annual bikathon which is coordinated by the Gender Affairs Division of the Social Services Department, is now set for Saturday 24th November.
One of the main coordinators of the event, Pastor Wayne Maynard, has indicated that it is all part of the month long series of activities, geared toward celebrating the men within our community.
He stressed that it is not a competition and is meant to foster family unity, especially with the men cycling together with their boys and even girl children. The mothers and women folk generally are also invited to be part of what he referred to as a FAMILY Day.
The action will commence at the Villa grounds at 6 am and the bikers will proceed down Main street Charlestown, down the Samuel Hunkins drive and make a turnaround at the Four Seasons Resort.
They will then return to the Samuel Hunkins drive and circle it twice. This is in an effort to catch up with any of the bikers who may have lagged behind.
The ride will culminate where it all started—at the Villa grounds.
As for the walkers, they will leave the Villa and proceed in the opposite direction towards Rams Supermarket; make a turn at the roundabout, onto the Stuart Willems drive; down the bypass road; back through Charlestown and then end at the Villa.
At the Villa grounds, activities will conclude with some fun events where participants will have an opportunity to win prizes. There will also be a sumptuous and healthy breakfast for all participants.
There are also a limited number of bikes available for persons who do not have bikes but they will need to inform the Department ahead of time, in terms of their height etc in order to determine the most appropriate bike to be utilized.
