It was Tuesday 16th October and it was a mega match. It was one of the more anticipated matches for the 2018 edition of the Primary Schools Football tournament.
The Maude Cross Preparatory School engaged the Nevis Academy at the ET Willet Park.
With such a big match up in the offing, the organizers saw it fit to utilize a top referee as well, in the person of Garfield Virgo.
Both teams started tentatively but just before the first half was completed, Isiah Parris, with his Dad running along on the side line, cleared the Maude Cross defence and bombed home a stunner that caused the Nevis Academy support crew to erupt into loud screams and shouts.
He had indeed scored.
The Maude Cross Prep team gave it their all for the remainder of the game and young Daniel looked the most likely to score, cheered on by his mom and dad but the Prep team, despite their several chances, lacked a good finish.
The Nevis Academy had to their credit, a goal keeper who dived to stop several attempts on his goal and a certain defensive player with his locks flying in the breeze, by the name of Anthony John Felecio Archibald. He was certainly hard to get pass.
He had in his corner, his grandparents, John Guilbert who claimed that he had garnered his skills from ‘Pops’ and popular radio personality, Ali Guilbert, who both cheered enthusiastically all afternoon.
The Nevis Academy managed to hold on to their slender lead up to the final whistle and they celebrated in style.
Final score: 1 goal to nil in favour of the Nevis Academy.
MVP for the Maude Cross prep-Ewin Telemaque
