SKNAAA Taking the 2018 Club Championships to the Nevis Athletic Stadium

As part of its mandate for greater inclusion in the sport of track and field, the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) will be hosting the 2018 Club Championships on the sister island of Nevis later this month.

Nine clubs; namely S.L. Hosford’s Pacesetters Track Club, Fast Twitch Track Club, Over the Top Track Club, Gladiators Track Club, Titans Track Club, Elite Track Club, Outer Limits Track Club, Etonics Track Club and Trail Blazers; will looking to dethrone Extremely Velocity as the top track and field club in the Federation.

The 2018 Club Championships, slated for Sunday, May 27 at the recently opened Nevis Athletic Stadium, will be the first national track and field event to be staged on Nevis. The action races off at 1pm.

SKNAAA President, Mr. Val Henry stated that the importance of having the Club Championships in Nevis this year is central to the executive body’s agenda of development the sport of track and field across the country of St. Kitts and Nevis.

He added, “We have taken a decision as an executive committee to spread the sport of track and field widely, in Nevis in particular, and we want not only to have the Club Championships in there but there are other national athletic events that we want to have hosted in Nevis.”

The SKNAAA President is of the strong view that there is an untapped source of talent that resides on Nevis, stating, “We do believe there are more Meritzer Williams in Nevis and more athletes across Nevis whether it is in Gingerland, Butlers or Newcastle, no matter where they are, we feel that there are many more good athletes that we can discover on the island of Nevis.”

In furtherance of its outreach on Nevis, the SKNAAA over the past weekend held its executive meeting, as well as its 9th development meet of the 2018 athletic season on the sister isle.
