President of the Nevis Masters Cricket Association Franklyn KUT Daniel is urging the cricket loving public on Nevis to come out in their numbers to support the upcoming annual Leeward Islands masters Cricket tournament.
According to Daniel, Nevis will host the tournament this year from Thursday 17th May to Sunday 20th May.
Three venues will be utilized for the matches: The ET Willet Park; The VOJN grounds and the Brown Hill recreation ground.
The opening ceremony will be held on the evening of the arrival of the teams—Thursday 17th May and matches will commence on Friday 18th May at all three venues.
Preliminary matches will continue on Saturday 19th May and the semifinals will be played on the morning of Sunday 20th May and the grand finals will be at the ET Willet Park that same afternoon.
Daniel also promised that there will be a well-stocked bar and musical entertainment, especially for matches played at the ET Willet Park.
As for the Nevis team, still hurting from their loss of the grand trophy, to defending champions St. Thomas, last year Daniel explained that training sessions will begin in earnest, this coming Thursday -19th April, at 5 pm.
He noted that there will be new additions to the squad this year as some key players have just turned 40 this year and he is adamant that the trophy will certainly not leave Nevis, this time around.
The eight possible teams for this year’s competition are: Defending champions St. Thomas; Anguilla; St. Croix; Tortola; St. Maarten; St. Kitts; host Nevis and Antigua, who are yet to fully confirm.
