Caribbean Lottery Super Sixers-T-20 Champions On Nevis

By Curtis Morton

Caribbean Lottery Super Sixers stormed to a convincing victory on the evening of Saturday 14th April, in the grand finals of the inaugural T-20 Paradise Beach sponsored tournament.

They came up against a formidable looking SMASHERS team and much was anticipated from the game.

Super Sixers batted first and scored a competitive 143 in their allotted 20 overs.

The game seemed nicely set up, when the Smashers responded, at one point, they were 54 for 2, requiring 90 from the last 10 overs with Skipper Adelvin Phillip at the crease and it did not take a Rocket Scientist to figure out that the final outcome, rested squarely on his shoulders.

He hit a few exquisite boundaries and seemed about to step into another gear.

At 60 for two, Marcus Dubberry marched past an off spinner from Phipps and the bails were neatly removed by wicketkeeper Allen and the very next ball, Akito Willet holed out at long off, striving for a first ball maximum. The hat trick was averted.

Enter, Theron Bussue.

Captain Jason Campbell had entrusted the lanky left arm leg spinner with the ball, even though he is the more renowned exponent of the art of left arm leg spin.

With his third delivery, Phillip rocked back and smashed a shortish delivery. There was a cracking sound and it appeared to have come from the middle of the bat, but was headed straight to Ross Powell, at short extra cover.

He held on to the stinger, gleefully and the Super Sixers celebrated in style.

Next ball up, Trev Smithen was bowled off an inside edge and the very next ball, Kian Pemberton, the Windies under 19 speedster, who was promoted in the order, was caught behind.

Hat trick for Bussue! It was as if a tsunami had entered the Smashers batting order and between Bussue and spin twin Phipps, they wrapped up the Smashers innings, without a whimper.

Smashers bowled out for 71!

Sports Minister, Hon. Eric Evelyn, presented the winner’s trophy to the Super Sixers, at the end of the game and Jamie Cornelius was adjudged player of the series for his 144 runs and 6 wickets.
