The Way I See It
The way I see it, when we step out into another day, we really have to give God all the thanks and praise for waking us up and significantly IN OUR RIGHT MINDS.
We should then seek to honour him during the hours he would have LOANED us, in our THOUGHTS, WORDS AND DEEDS.
Reason being: We are not sure what is the next thing that will happen to us and we do not know when that crucial breath of life will be snatched away from us or our ability to think straight, will be removed at short notice.
I mean, there are persons who are technically alive but not capable of thinking straight; some even in a state of unconsciousness or maybe even totally demented.
So, when we are alive and we can think straight, we need to give God the honour and the praise!
Amen!
No, I am not hear this week to deliver a sermon but I am just thankful to God for sparing my life.
It was Monday evening of this week and I was driving at ‘moderate’ pace in my mini bus, heading to collect some visitors on a taxi gig.
As I swung left, onto the bypass road, I was not driving erratically, but I was going at a fair clip.
Suddenly, from the left side of the road, I saw a donkey pelting directly in front of me, running across the road.
I instinctively, pulled hard right and as I avoided the creature, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted another one, pelting from that side of the road towards me.
I pulled back hard left and my heart sunk, as I heard a loud thud and I knew that the animal had made impact with my bus.
I paused momentarily, as the two beasts galloped their merry way down the road. The bus looked okay and at least the donkeys were okay…..
I dove off and collected the guests and got them safely to their destination.
Strangely, the gentleman that I had collected, asked about the donkeys on Nevis and mentioned that they could be as dangerous to traffic, as are the deer in the USA.
Having completed my job, I headed for home, looking forward to a good night’s rest.
As I opened my gate, I noted that one of the two back lights was showing a very clear light and the other was showing the usual red.
Closer examination revealed that the cover to the lights on the right side had been completely knocked off and additionally, the bus had a slight dent.
Now I was wishing I could find that donkey!
Well I newa!
I eventually calmed down sufficiently to thank God, realizing that it could have been a lot worse.
The bus could have suffered more damage, or I could have died. So, I thanked God and returned to the scene to look for the pieces of the light cover.
I managed to find two of the pieces, both with cracks.
As I completed picking up the pieces and sat in my bus to examine them, a vehicle pulled up alongside me and an individual in dark clothing, just stayed there staring at me. I stared back and did not say a word and having whispered a quick prayer, I started to think of my options, with the possibility that it could be a bandit.
The individual obviously got fed up of the brief staring competition and stepped out of the vehicle and walked across to my vehicle, with an unmistakable swagger and air of arrogance.
‘What’s going on here?’ he quizzed.
‘A donkey hit me,’ I replied calmly.
‘You mean you hit a donkey?’ he said.
‘No, a donkey hit me,’ I responded.
‘You mean you hit a donkey?’ he insisted aggressively.
‘Okay, I hit a donkey,’ I said. Resigning to the fact that the argument was futile.
He walked around my vehicle, with that same air of importance and arrogance and suddenly from within the vehicle, someone called out my name.
It was the sweetest should I would have heard all night, especially on that lonely by pass road, at 11 pm in the night.
To my relief, it was a young cop I know. We would have played cricket together some time ago.
‘You alright? He asked.
‘No,’ I responded. ‘This donkey has spoilt my night.’
‘Well, that’s life,’ he said.
Now, I am to assume that the other guy was a cop but strangely, he did not identify himself.
All the while I was aready thinking that if he tried to attack me, how I would press down on the accelerator and speed off!
Well I newa!
However, I thank God for getting me home safely and I am in the process of trying to get a replacement for the light cover, even though the prices I am hearing are not encouraging, but guess what?
The same way God protected me, so too he will provide for me.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
