(CHARLESTOWN NEVIS)- History was created at the Nevis Cultural Complex on Thursday, July 28, 2016 when Soca Artist Deli Ranks, captured both the Soca Monarch Groovy and the Soca Monarch Power Competitions.
He competed against seven other artists in both contests and at the end of the night; the judges were convinced that he had outperformed his competitors. He gained a total of 257 points for the Groovy competition performing a song entitled, ‘Whoops’ that he collaborated with the Sugar Hill String Band. First runner up was awarded to Speedy with a total amount of 240 points with a song called, ‘Pure Soca’. King Hollywood who is set to compete in the Senior Monarch Contest this evening was placed second runner up with a tune entitled, ‘No Curfew’. He gained a tally of 240 points. The other participants who participated were, Shanna, Woodis, Shakki Starfire and Kjah.
In the Soca Monarch Power Contest, Deli Ranks received a total of 246 points with a song called, ‘Sweet’. First runner up went to X-Man with a total of 234 points with a song entitled, ‘Same Song’and Daddy Tutee was placed second runner up gaining a total of 219 points. He performed a song called, ‘GPS’. The other participants who took part in the competition were, Jeezy Sparta, Lax, Heuj, Eazi and Adowah.
