Basseterre: St. Kitts,: Students and Teachers of the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) exchanged roles for a day as they participated in the school’s annual activity of role reversal titled “teacher switch-a-ru” on Thursday, November 24.
Mrs. Claire Greenaway, a teacher at WAHS gave a brief insight into the objective of the day “It’s an annual activity at the Washington Archibald High School and many of the students look forward to this occasion, where they get to play the part of teachers.
They actually get to teach some of the subject areas. This activity gives the students a better appreciation of the challenges teachers experience on a day-to-day basis and it also enables them to get a feel of the profession of teaching in terms of dress, in terms of how they conduct and carry themselves,” Mrs. Greenaway stated.
Noting that students are also able to assume the role of the principal Mrs. Greenaway continued, “ We even have students who take the place of the principal, and when students do this, they also get an opportunity to understand the day-to-day running of the office and what it is like having to deal with their peers and the challenges that the principal experiences having to deal with students day to day.”
Acting in the role of Principal, Taniqua Niles third former at Washington Archibald High had this to say about her experience “I enjoy being the principal because I got to see how Mrs. Sergeant [the principal] runs the school, I got to witness the different situations and issues she has to deal with on a daily basis. It is exciting but still challenging because they are my peers and I got to witness how my peers and I act.”
